QuickTime Codec

QuickTime Video (also known as the Apple Video codec) and QuickTime Audio are codecs used to create QuickTime Files. QuickTime files can also contain other types of video and audio codecs.
Compatability
VLC can play QuickTime files up to version 2.0 (please check this).
